At the recent White County School Board Meeting, Woodland Park Elementary announced their spotlight student as fifth grader Ayrianna Webb.

Woodland Park will be choosing to spotlight one student each month this school year, and Amber Mullinax, the school’s vice principal and person in charge of announcing this month’s selection to the school board, said she is impressed with the diverse set of learners at Woodland Park.

“I can assure you that in the 20-21 school year, we are creating a diverse set of learners across the district as well as here at Woodland Park,” Mullinax, who had spent the last several years as a teacher at White County High School before taking the position as assistant principal at Woodland Park Elementary school, said. “It’s amazing what these kids are able to do and what they accomplish.”

“Kids are very roll-with-the-punches, and our students have really, really done a great job this year,” she continued, talking about the willingness of students to adapt to all of the changes that they have been faced with this year due to the COVID-19 virus and the need to increase health safety measures. “They are happy to be in school and doing whatever is asked of them, they are meeting the challenge.”

According to Ayrianna’s teachers, she is leading the way, by example, for her classmates to continue meeting the challenges they will face this year and set themselves up for success in the classroom, not only this year, but throughout their academic careers.

“Aryianna exhibits a positive outlook and attitude in the classroom,” Joy Templeton said.  “She sets an example of excellence in behavior and cooperation for her classmates. It is a great pleasure to have her in my classroom.”

Michael Cunningham, another of Woodland Park’s fifth grade teachers, agreed with Templeton.

“Ayrianna does a fantastic job of staying on task in class, turning her work in on time, being respectful of both her peers and her teachers, and volunteers to answer questions in class,” he said. “Ayrianna is compassionate and kind; she has been there for others who need a friend and is dependable and reliable.”

“Ayrianna is one of those students who is always eager to learn, completes assignments and participates in class,” Kathy Phillips, the third of Woodland Park’s fifth grade teachers, echoed her co-teachers’ sentiments about Ayrianna.  “She’s respectful to her teachers as well as her peers and is always eager to lend a helping hand.  She’s full of smiles and kindness and is an absolute joy to have in class.”
