Betty Jo Geer, 90, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 25, 2020, Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Geer was born July 20, 1930, in Sparta, to Robert Lee Geer and Florrie Thomas Floyd Geer.
She was a retired school teacher, with most of her career spent in the Hamilton County School District. She was an active member of West Sparta Church of Christ, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and served the Vacation Bible School program. Her proudest accomplishment was teaching in the Stepping Stones Program at the church. In her younger years, she was an active tennis player, golfer, and bowler.
She is survived by a sister, Sandra Geer Oakes and husband Jim; two nephews, Robert Oakes and wife Sylinia, David Oakes and wife Michelle; great-nieces, Halle Oakes, Ellah Oakes, Laney Oakes, Sophie Oakes; and great-great-niece, Georgia Owens.
In consideration of the health and safety of friends and family during the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Jeff Turner will officiate.
Jim Oakes, Robert Oakes, David Oakes, Cole Crosland, Cade Clark, and Wayne Farris will serve the family as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stepping Stones School, in care of West Sparta church of Christ, 100 Hampton Dr., Sparta, Tennessee 38583.
