Saxophones, trumpets, trombones and more are coming to Dogwood Park.

Big Band Sound Orchestra will present a free concert Monday at 7:30 p.m. Another is scheduled for Sept. 7.

“The concert will be a fun evening of jazz, swing and big band era music played by some of the area’s finest musicians,” Chad McDonald, Cookeville Leisure Services cultural arts superintendent, said. “Under the direction of Carroll Gotcher, the group has a vast and varied repertoire sure to please all tastes.”

Big Band Sound, founded in 1994, plays music from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s – including tunes by Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and other notable big band musicians. Band members include professional musicians, both active and retired, as well as other community members. Many of them also perform with the Cookeville Community Band.

“Bring a lawn chair and enjoy a great evening of music in a beautiful setting,” McDonald said.

Concessions are available. Seating is limited to maintain social distancing. Marked areas on the performance pavilion lawn and tiered seating area are six feet apart. Attendees are encouraged to wear face masks.

Dogwood Park is located at 30 E. Broad St. For more information, call 931-528-1313 or 931-520-4386.
