Celebrate Sheep Shearing Day at the Museum of Appalachia

On Saturday, May 1, the Museum of Appalachia will host its annual Sheep Shearing Day.

Visitors are welcome baaa-ck to celebrate the flock’s spring haircuts, as the wooly members of the Museum family prepare for warmer weather.

From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., visitors will witness the process of fiber production from the shearing of the sheep to the creation of wool products. Sheep Shearing Day will also feature live bluegrass music and demonstrations from sheep herders, blacksmiths, beekeepers, spinners, weavers, and more.

Admission includes a tour of the Museum farm and village, which contains some three-dozen historic log structures, exhibit halls filled with thousands of Appalachian artifacts, working gardens, and farm animals. 

Tickets are available for purchase at museumofappalachia.org. Admission is $15 for adults, $6 for kids (ages 5-12), and $42 for families.

Special group rates are available. School groups, homeschool organizations and groups of 20 or more can make reservations by contacting Stephanie Josey at stephaniejosey@museumofappalachia.org

The Museum is located 16 miles north of Knoxville, one mile east of I-75, at Exit 122. The Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., with extended hours on weekends.
