As the fiscal year comes to an end, Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen made a few final budget amendments and purchasing and personnel decisions, during the June 16 meeting, as they prepared to move into the 2022/2023 fiscal year.
Ordinance 22-948 was presented to the board, which was unanimously approved, to amend the 2021/2022 fiscal year budget one final time to reflect the difference between actual revenues and expenditures versus the ones the board had budgeted.
The board also approved bid results for chemicals for the YMCA, Water Filtration Plant, and Sewer Plant. According to city administrator Brad Hennessee, bid packets were sent to 11 vendors, with seven of them returning “no bids.” The remaining bids were read and approved but won’t be awarded until all specifications are approved by plant operators.
Under other purchasing business, the board approved the police department’s request to designate a 2011 Police Ford Crown Victoria as surplus for the purpose of sale on GovDeals and approved the solicitation of bids for the installation of the lights on the pedestrian bridge and walking trail at South Carter Street Park.
There were four personnel decisions made during the board’s June 16 meeting. They approved the solicitation of applications for two street laborer positions for the Public Works Department because of the resignation of employees currently in those positions and approved the solicitation of applications for Press Operator – Transfer Station for the Public Works Department. They also approved the application of Mindy Stone for the position of Administrative Clerk and the application of Nathen Skinner for the position of Water Treatment Plant Operator.
