Clifford Maynard, 88, of Sparta, passed away March 19, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Maynard was born June 9, 1932, in Sparta, to Samuel Clint Maynard and Maude Emerton Maynard.

He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received an Honorable Discharge, on March 11, 1954.

He was a carpenter most of his adult life, building many homes, in White County. He also worked on a road crew building the highway leading up to Sunset Rock.  He was an avid fisherman until his health declined. He loved fishing Center Hill for walleye, catfish, and bass.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Maynard was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Elega Qualls Maynard; brothers, Joe, Willie Gaines, Bud, Donnie; and sisters, Jane Spakes, Tini Sparkman, Pauline Vinson, and Betty Rascoe.

He is survived by two sons, Dale (Cindy) Maynard, of Sparta, Ted (Wynette) Maynard, of Sparta; three daughters, Vicki Young, of Sparta, Connie (Mike) Officer, of Sparta, Tammy (Arville) Pittman, of Sparta; four grandchildren, Gary (Nicki) Norton, Casey Norton, Jamie (Jerry) Sawyer, Kiara Pittman; four great-grandchildren, Aaron Vinson, Dawson Williams, Maddox Sawyer, Oliver Bruch; special friends/caregivers, Loretta Walker, Ashley Cripps; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was 3 p.m., March 21, 2021, at Hunter Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard, followed in Highland Cemetery. Doug Benningfield officiated.

Dale Maynard, Ted Maynard, Mike Officer, Arville Pittman, Gary Norton, Aaron Vinson, Dawson Williams, Jerry Sawyer, and John Hart served as pallbearers.

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
