David Ray Wilson, 80, of the Doyle community of White County, passed away April 26, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Mr. Wilson was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Spencer, to Milburn and Linnie Mae Wilson.

He was a 1959 graduate of Van Buren County High School. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Roberts Wilson, on March 16, 1962. They were married 57 years before her death. He was a career employee of Thomas Industries where he was known as “Speedy.” David and Dorothy also served as house parents at the Church of God Home for Children for eight years, in Sevierville. He was a member of East Sparta Church of God where he served as church clerk and council member for many years. He also served as pastor of Gum Springs Mountain Church of God and had a radio ministry for several years.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; his sisters, Nyda, Ida, Emma, Paulette; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clyde and Lillie Mae Roberts; brother-in-law, Charles Roberts; sister-in-law, Carol Roberts; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Dodson Wilson

He is survived by his children, Timothy Wilson, of Doyle, Angela (Tony) Rigdon, of Algood, Gregory (Kelly) Wilson, of Sparta; grandchildren, Andrea (Rhett) Baker, of Sparta, Courtney Wilson, of Dalton, Georgia, Chelsea Wilson of Dalton, Georgia; great-granddaughter, Bailey Baker, of Sparta; Papa’s children, Erica, Cade, and Sydney Smiley, all of Sparta; sister, Willete Wilson, of Sparta;l sister-in-law, Dorothy Roberts, of Doyle; brothers-in-law, James “Buddy” Roberts, Steve (Kathy) Roberts, Joe Swoape ,all of Doyle; numerous nieces and nephews; and his daily companion, Rosebud.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., April 30, 2021, at East Sparta Church of God, with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. Bishop Donald Goodrum and Bishop Howard Thomason will officiate. The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m., April 29, at the church.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Wilson’s nephews, Stoney Roberts, Cliff Swoape, Phil Swack, Josh Roberts, Cody Roberts, Sheldon Swoape, Jason Roberts, Peyton Roberts, and Orion Leslie.
