Emergency personnel battle brush fire on Walter Stone Road

White County firefighters spent most of Nov. 10 at a brush fire in the Northern portion of the county, on Walter Stone Road.

The call was originally dispatched at approximately 10:11 a.m., Nov. 10, by White County E-911 Emergency Communications Center.

Tennessee Division of Forestry was also on the scene and will be monitoring the fire lines that were established by firefighters and Forestry personnel.

Mutual aid was requested from Putnam County Fire Department for an engine company to cover the county because of resources being depleted. At this point, it is estimated approximately 5-6 acres of rough terrain were involved. There were no injuries reported from the incident.

“This incident occurred due to reckless burning, and one person was cited,” Matt McBride, director, White County Office of Emergency Management, said.

A special thank you has been extended to the community/neighbors and Life Church of Sparta for providing firefighters with food and rehab.

Other responding agencies included White County Office of Emergency Management, White County Emergency Medical Service, and White County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters also responded to other smaller incidents during the Walter Stone Road fire.

McBride said, “Please, if at all possible, refrain from outdoor burning until we get some much-needed rain.”
