White County invites you to join in its annual ceremony recognizing the National Day of Prayer, this Thursday, May 1 at noon, in Metcalf Park. This cherished tradition calls upon all residents from every walk of life to gather, reflect, and lift our hearts in unified prayer for our city, county, state, and nation.
The observance of the National Day of Prayer has a long and meaningful history in America. Rooted in early traditions of calling upon the Lord for guidance during critical times, it was formally recognized by Congress, in 1952, and has evolved into an annual event to seek hope and renewal together. Over the decades, congregations across the country have embraced this day as a reminder that, in the face of adversity and uncertainty, the power of prayer can forge bonds of unity and inspire groups, communities and nations.
Prayer is a spiritual lifeline—a time where we pause amid busy lives and connect with our Creator. In today’s fast-changing world, our freedom to worship God is a profound privilege that accentuates the very foundation of our community. It stands as a testament to our commitment to compassion, resilience, and the enduring values that we hold dear.
We encourage everyone—families, friends, neighbors, and visitors alike—to come together on May 1, at Metcalf Park, at noon. Bring your hearts and voices as we pray for guidance, strength, and unity. Let this day be a celebration of faith, community, and the freedom that allows us all to worship and pray. If you cannot attend, I ask that at noon you pause for a moment and pray where you are.
Thanks, D.W.
