Fatality reported in late night structure fire on Buttermilk St.

According to information received, the South Group fire personnel were dispatched to a structure fire at 145 Buttermilk St., at 11:50 p.m., Feb. 7, 2021. Fire crews arrived on scene finding an out building fully engulfed and a nearby house on fire as well.

First-arriving units were informed a male was believed to be in the house, and fire personnel began searching the structure and only finding and removing a dog from inside. Lines were pulled, and the fire was contained within minutes, and a male patient was then discovered inside the out building. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was notified to respond to the scene. Fire crews, along with sheriff’s deputies and agents from the TBI remained on scene until 6 a.m., Feb. 8. Detectives are attempting to contact next of kin to the victim and also requested that he be sent for an autopsy.
