According to a report by Piney Volunteer Fire Department, Piney  and Fall Creek Falls Fire Department were dispatched to the Cable Trail, on May 30, 2022, for an injured female who had jumped from the top of Cane Creek Falls, which is approximately 85 feet. The departments responded to the scene with Fall Creek Falls State Park rangers and personnel.

The patient was found to have significant injuries. Air medical was requested. Spencer Fire And Rescue was then requested for additional personnel and to assist with the landing zone.

The injured person was secured on a back board and in a Stokes basket. (A Stokes basket, also called a Stokes stretcher or Stokes litter. It is a metal wire or plastic litter widely used in search and rescue. Its key feature is that it can be disassembled for transport in backpacks or by pack horse.)

The female was then carried from across the creek and to the base of the Cable Trail. Then the basket was attached to a high line. She was hauled up the trail by rope crews.

The patient was treated and transported by Van Buren County Emergency Medical Service to the landing zone. Life Force Air Medical came to the scene and assisted with patient care to the landing zone. She was then flown to Erlanger.

Piney Volunteer Fire Department wants to thank all emergency personnel and volunteers who assisted.
