George William “Bill” Marshall Sr., known affectionately as Pop, passed away May 20, 2024, in Cookeville, at the age of 90.

He was born on May 12, 1934, in Washington, DC.

Pop was a cherished father to George Marshall Jr. (Carol) and Deborah Scott (Dennis). He was a beloved grandfather to Melissa Marshall (Danielle), Kristina Jackson (Ross), and Kellie Wendte (Travis), and a proud great-grandfather to Bennett Jackson, Emma Wendte, Wells Jackson, and Luke Wendte. He also held Lisa Perez and her family dear to his heart, considering her as his own daughter.

Pop was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Nancy Kitchen Marshall; his brother, Joseph “Ray” Marshall; his daughter-in-law, Glenda Marshall; his parents, William Ralph Marshall and Ethel Botts Marshall; and many other cherished family members.

In his leisure time, Pop was a passionate outdoorsman who found joy in fishing and hunting, especially when shared with his son. He had a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed creating silly songs and games with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His pancakes were legendary among his family, and everyone called them “Pop’s pancakes.”

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date to honor the memory of George William Marshall Sr. He leaves behind a wonderful family legacy and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
