White County Sheriff Steve Page is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who shot a homeowner almost two weeks ago during an incident that was originally dispatched as a home invasion.

On Aug. 20, 2021, at approximately 6:05 a.m., White County deputies were dispatched to the 3500 block of Old Cookeville Road about a reported shooting. According to Sheriff Page, deputies made contact with a 34-year-old male who had a gunshot wound to his chest. The gunshot victim reported hearing a noise outside and saw a masked suspect in dark clothing attempting to break into the office area of his property.

The victim reported he went outside to confront the suspect and fired a warning shot. The victim reported shortly afterward he felt something hit him, and he then realized he had been shot. The victim was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital, in Chattanooga, because of his injuries and has since been released.

This case is an ongoing investigation. The suspect or suspects are still at large. Anyone with any information on this crime is asked to contact Detective Wade Pike, at the White County Sheriff’s Office, (931) 836-2700.
