Honoring the one they loved

Sharing memories through a Little Free Library

Posted

Bob England, a 1973 graduate of White County High School and an active volunteer with researching genealogy for White County Heritage Museum and Bon Air Mountain Historical Society, is shown with his granddaughter, Ella, as they read one of the books at the Little Free Library the duo erected in memory of Bob’s mother and Ella’s grandmother, Dot England. Dot passed away Nov. 21, 2021. According to Bob, his mother loved the book sales at White County Public Library and Cumberland County Library.

Bob said, “The day she [Dot] had her stroke, she and I had been to the Pleasant Hill book sale that morning. She always called me to remind me of whatever book sale was coming up, and this time when she called I didn’t hear the ring, luckily, and I have her voice mail on my phone telling me about that sale. We miss her, and Ella wanted to honor her love of books and our love of her.”

Plans are in the works to place more of the Little Free Libraries wherever they are allowed.

Ella is the daughter of Brent and Katie England. She is the granddaughter of Bob and Bertha England and Bill and Peggy Potter.
