Husband and wife participate in recent National Prayer Walk

Steve Qualls, pastor at Christpoint Church in Sparta, and his wife, Tena, recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to be a part of the National Prayer Walk.

“Franklin Graham had organized a simple prayer march, in DC, for Sept. 26,” Steve Qualls said. “There were no stars, singers, or special speakers - only prayer. Tena and I drove 1,300 miles in 18 hours and walked 25 miles and prayed over our nation in three days. Crazy!”

National ministry leaders, including Robert Morris, Jentzen Franklin, and Michael W. Smith, were on hand to join the estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people who descended on the nation’s capital for a weekend of prayer. The event was opened by Vice President Mike Pence, who made an unexpected appearance and led the opening prayer from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

The march, which started at the Lincoln Memorial and continued along the national mall to the Capitol Building, included seven stops along the 1.8-mile route. Stops included the World War II Memorial, a view of the White House, the Waashington Monument, the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, and the National Archives.

“As you could imagine, moving that many people from place to place was impossible, so people were gathered in groups, huddled in circles,” Steve Qualls said. “Some were praying alone or with another person. Thousands of people cried out for repentance, protection, and guidance. Specific prayers were called out for the presidency, legislation, civil division, COVID-19, and abortion. Tena and I actually joined a family from Georgia at the foot of the Washington monument, on Thursday night, and prayed for their church.”

On Friday evening, both Steve and Tena Qualls attended an event called “The Return” that was being hosted by Jonathon Cahn.

“It was more prophetic and very powerful,” Steve Qualls said. “Lots of people were there for both events, but it was noticeable that the majority were there for prayer.

“In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God gives four specific conditions for mankind, and, if we will become obedient to those four commands, then he will forgive our sin and heal our land,” Qualls said. “1- if my people will humble themselves, 2- pray, 3- seek my face, 4-and turn from their evil ways, and every state was represented and was praying in repentance.

“I can honestly say, and Tena has agreed with me, that it was one of the most powerful opportunities we have ever experienced. I expect a move across our nation.”
