Irene Simmons Dycus, 97, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on June 4, 2022.

She was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Quebeck, to Farce Simmons and Bessie Adair Simmons.

After marrying Bonnie Vernon Dycus, on Aug. 14, 1955, at a church in Spencer, they moved to their farm, on the Caney Fork River, in the Hickory Valley community. Many fun days were spent by nieces and nephews camping, fishing, and hunting on the farm. Irene took great pride in their garden, their mule named Katie, and in making cherry pies with cherries picked from their own tree. She was diligent in reading her Bible daily and always enjoyed the Dycus family reunions.

As a longtime member of Frasier’s Chapel United Methodist Church, in Sparta, Irene served as the church treasurer for several years. She worked at the Sparta Shirt Factory and was a loyal member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie, who died in 2006 after 51 years of marriage.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and some dear friends who were like family to her.

We rejoice knowing she is whole in mind, body, and spirit now, enjoying her heavenly reward with her Savior and loved ones.

Memorials may be sent to Frasier’s Chapel UMC, c/o Doris Russell, 1334 Sparkmantown Road, Doyle, Tennessee, 38559.

Funeral service was 2 p.m., June 10, 2022, at Thurman Funeral Home, with a graveside service that followed at Frasier’s Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Al Scheiber officiated.

Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
