James Monroe Lawson Jr., 75, of Brentwood, passed away June 18, 2020, at Williamson County Medical Center.

Mr. Lawson was born May 23, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, to James Monroe Lawson Sr. and Nannie Mae Ledford Lawson.

He grew up in Middle Tennessee. An Eagle Scout, he graduated from White County High School and Tennessee Tech University. After serving his country with honor, in the U.S. Air Force, he worked as a certified public accountant for many years, retiring in 2014 from Maggart and Associates P.C., in Nashville. A devoted and loving husband and father, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughter, loving on his many dogs, enjoying a variety of good music, traveling around the United States (proudly stepping foot in all 50 states), and cheering on the U.T. Vols football team. (Go Big Orange!)

Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Joan Avis Ziegler Lawson, of Brentwood; daughter, Emma Rebecca Lawson, of Brentwood; sister, Kathleen (and Mickey) Sparkman, of Nashville; brother, Stacy (and Terri) Lawson, of Lebanon; niece, Ryan Kathleen Lawson, of Mt. Juliet; nephews, Samuel Monroe Lawson, of Mt. Juliet, (U.S. Navy veteran), Corey Wayne Lawson, of Covington, Kentucky (U.S. Marine Corps veteran); and a plethora of other loving family and friends.

A private family service, with military honors, will be at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Peterson Foundation for Parkinson’s, in Nashville, or a local humane society.

Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home, in Nashville, is in charge of arrangements.
