James Orval “Lolly” Sherrell, 81, of Sparta, passed away July 27, 2021, at Cedar Hills Senior Living, in Cookeville.
Mr. Sherrell was born June 2, 1940, in Sparta, to William Orvil Sherrell and Lillian Troglen Sherrell.
He was best known for his sense of humor and ill-timed jokes. He had a passion for jigsaw puzzles, ancestry research, and pulling tricks on his friends and family. As his dementia progressed, his most recent hobbies were Gunsmoke marathons, enjoying sweets, and lovingly aggravating his assisted living family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Felton Sherrell; his brothers, Bobby Sherrell, Tommy Sherrell, Bruce Sherrell, Wayne Sherrell; and a sister, Tina Sherrell.
Survivors include his children, Nick Sherrell, of Napoleon, Ohio, Vicky Sherrell-Bouwens, of Marshall, Michigan, Jerry Sherrell (Casey), of Pikeville, Debbie Yates (David), of Mooresville, North Carolina, Lori Dyer (Tom), of Sparta; grandchildren, Anthony Sherrell, Chase Williams, Dara Yates, Devin Yates, Marlee Dyer, Logan Dyer, Savanna Bouwens, Paige Bouwens; brothers, Jerry Sherrell, Chuck Sherrell; sisters, Marian Lowery, Delores Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., July 31, 2021, at Oaklawn Funeral Home, with burial in Plainview Cemetery, in the Cassville community. Joe Neal will officiate. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m., July 31, at the funeral home.
