Jimmy Leon Slatton, 70, a Sparta resident and Van Buren County native, passed away Oct. 11, 2020, at NHC Healthcare of Cookeville, following an extended illness.

Mr. Slatton was born June 11, 1950. He was the son of Dorothy Mai Miller Slatton and Leonard Kenneth “Mayor” Slatton.

He was a retired truck driver with Batesville Casket Company    where he drove for 34 years. Mr. Slatton was a United States Army Veteran of Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division.

He was preceded in death by his father and a niece.

Mr. Slatton is survived by his wife, Joan Hillis Slatton, whom he married July 4, 1981; his mother, Dorothy Mai Miller Slatton; brother, Robert (Joyce) Slatton, of Doyle; and several family members, friends, nieces, and nephews,

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cookeville Cancer Center, 142 W. 5th St., Cookeville, Tennessee 38501, or American Legion Post 173 Honor Guard.    

A graveside service and interment will be 2 p.m., Oct. 14, 2020, at Mt. View Cemetery, on Highway 30, in Warren County. Richard Bowman will officiate. Family and friends are to meet at cemetery. No visitation will be held prior to the service. Military grave rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 173 Honor Guard.
