Sparta musician and radio personality John Powell, 71, passed away Sept. 3, 2021, at Centennial Medical Center, in Nashville.
John was born Aug. 10, 1950, in Sparta, to Elmer Ledford Powell and Laura Jean Cowden Powell.
He was well known as "Papa John" by his many radio listeners for years of work as an on-air personality at Sparta's WSMT-FM Rock Dog Radio.
Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with John's cremation.
A memorial service will be planned when COVID-19 cases are more manageable and it is safe for family and friends to gather together.
