Laurel Creek Baptist Church celebrates with note-burning

On Sunday, June 5, 2022, Laurel Creek Baptist Church held a special service honoring two memorial events in the life of the church - observing the 20th anniversary of the beloved pastor, Roy L. Terry, and the burning of the note for the new building.

The members of Laurel Creek Baptist Church take no credit for what you will read. All glory goes to the Almighty God and Father through our Lord Jesus Christ and by His indwelling Holy Spirit.

More than 20 years ago, the leadership in the church recommended if growth were to be experienced within the community and the members growing in God’s Word, a full-time pastor would be needed. A search committee was formed. With the leadership of the Holy Spirit, interviews, background checks, and a trial sermon, the church voted unanimously to call their first full-time pastor, a recent graduate of Southern Baptist Seminary, Bro. Roy Terry. Under his leadership, the church has experienced a solid and steady growth of people and a flourishing spiritual growth.

Years later, the leadership realized that continued growth would depend upon better facilities such as a larger parking space, classrooms, and worship area. The church voted to give those in authority the right to search out future locations for this building. After considering several sites with no results, two members made available, at no cost to the church, a wonderful location, and the church voted to accept the gift of the new property.

Two building committees were then appointed: one for construction and one for interior and exterior design. An architect and contractor were hired to build the basic construction, and the members to finish the interior. Three teams from Builders for Christ came to help complete the interior, coming from as far as Texas to help. Local contractors were used to complete the electrical, drop ceiling, carpet, and tile, with many members painting and cleaning.

Donations were received from several churches in Nashville, South Carolina, and Knoxville in the form of chairs for the sanctuary, chairs for the classrooms, nursery supplies, kitchen supplies, and a baby grand piano from a local church.

Donations included the beautiful epoxy floor throughout, foyer tile, ovens, paint, security, with many working with their talent to install many items, to clean windows even legal services were pro-bono.

Each fifth Sunday, the offerings collected were only for the building fund, and, as a result of the loving and giving church family, the building was completed at the total cost of $1.3 million.

Laurel Creek Baptist Church celebrated with exceeding joy the burning of the note and honoring a very beloved pastor that God, in His grace, has given to His people at Laurel Creek Baptist Church.

To God be the glory for the great things he has done at Laurel Creek Baptist Church.
