Light Bearers

Posted

Yesterday, daylight

didn’t open its doors for business till 7 a.m.,

and it . . . rained . . . all . . . day . . . long!

In the drive-thru window at Hardee’s,

I handed the blue-eyed, pregnant, cashier

A two-dollar tip.

She smiled behind her mask,

and the restaurant lit up.

My doctor smiled, holding my two books of poetry,

“These will help me through the COVID.”

After the visit . . .Dunkin’ Donuts

Offered a free doughnut to veterans.

Sweetness poured out the drive-thru window

As I offered the young girl a tip.

Arriving home . . .

A beautiful floral arrangement was

Sitting in a chair on the front porch.

I took the card from the envelope.

“Thank you, Dad, for always holding my hand.

I love you, Kelley”

When you give light

It always comes back to you.
