Malaki Dowell honored Oct. 6

Posted

Former WCHS Football standout Malaki Dowell received another extinguishing and well-deserved honor before last Friday night’s game. The pregame presentation celebrated not only the accomplishments of Dowell but the player himself. Dowell’s jersey was retired in honor of all he did, was, is, and will be. The ceremony included several current and former teammates and coaches alongside Dowell who was also surrounded by family, friends, and fans. Even with all the success he had on the field, Dowell would make sure he gave credit to his team, understanding that they were a large part of his accomplishments.

Dowell, who had an incredible junior year rushing for over 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns in just 9 games cemented his place among the best ever to play football in White County with a senior year that was nothing short of amazing. The 2022 Region MVP and Mr. Football finalist ran for over 3,200 yards and rushed for 40 touchdowns all in a single season. Dowell graduated last year and is now playing football for the Austin Peay Governors.

Some other player(s) from Sparta may be named Region MVP, some other players may be named Mr. Football finalists, some other players will be recognized as player of the year; but now no other player in White County football history will ever wear the jersey number 6.
