Martha Mae Payne Bryant

Martha Mae Payne Bryant, 89, went peacefully to be with the    Lord, on July 15, 2020, while at the home of her daughter, in Walling.       

Mrs. Bryant was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Sparta, to Samuel Lewis Payne and Samantha Elizabeth Gilliam Payne.

        She married Hubert Bryant, on July 1, 1947, in Rossville, Georgia. They were married for 69 years until his death on July 18, 2016. Mrs. Bryant was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church but recently attended Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church. She worked at the shirt factory for many years and retired from Mallory Timers after 30 years.

          Mrs. Bryant loved sitting on her front porch and watching the hummingbirds. She also loved working in her yard and cooking for her family. Her family especially loved her fried apple pies. She was a part of five generations with her daughter Carolyn for 30 years and was also a part of four generations with her daughter Connie for 18 years.

      In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. 

      Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn (Rodger) McCann, of Sparta, Connie (Charles) Wood, of Walling; grandchildren, Melody (Keith) Edmonds, of Sparta, Melissa (Harmon) Hunsicker, of Goodlettsville, Jamie Wood, of Sparta, Amy (Chris) Smith, of Walling; great-grandchildren, Kristin Payne, of Sparta, Jacob (Lexie) Hunsicker, of Ashland City, Lauren and Lindsey Hunsicker, of Goodlettsville, Lily Jordan, of Walling; great-great-grandchildren, Meleah and Makaylee Payne, of Sparta; her brothers, Robert Payne, of Sparta, Earl Payne, of Washington; a very special friend, Peggy Mayers, of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews.

         The family wishes to thank Avalon Hospice of Cookeville for all the love and care they have shown their mother.

Funeral was noon, July 18, 2020, Thurman Funeral Home, with burial in Old Bon Air Cemetery. Bro. Rodger McCann and Bro. Marvin Saylors officiated.

Pallbearers were Keith Edmonds, Harmon Hunsicker, Jacob Hunsicker, Chris Smith, Dana Baldwin, and Steve Bryant.

Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
