Question:  What are the new generators that the city recently purchased going to be used for, and where are they going to be installed?

Answer: The city had taken bids for a building generator that will be used at Sparta Civic Center.  During the process of the bids, another city had cancelled their generator that was identical to the one that the City of Sparta had purchased.  The company offered the spare generator to us for the same price.

After discussions of the need, we felt it in the best interest of the city to make the purchase of the extra generator and have it installed at the YMCA.  Kyle Goff, director of the YMCA, was very excited to get this generator.  Our ultimate goal is to be able to have the YMCA as an emergency shelter in case of some type of disaster that would create a need for the city and county to have an area that would be able to house residents when displaced.

The City of Sparta and the YMCA are excited to begin this process of making it happen.  We hope we will never have to use this generator in that capacity, but we feel it best to prepare for the worst, and hope and pray for the best.

Once the generators have been installed, we will have an emergency shelter area on the east and west sides of the bridge in town.  We will continue to be proactive in providing services that benefit our city, county, and community.

Be safe out there.
