Minute with the Mayor

I wanted to take this time to thank everyone who came out to the town hall meeting that was held.  I am going to list several of the issues that were discussed at the meeting.  I will not go into much detail, however, this may spark a question that you would like answered.

There were approximately 30-40 citizens who came out to the meeting.  I want to thank Vice Mayor Robert Officer and Alderman Travis McBride for joining me at the meeting. Please note the list of items that were discussed. 

• City of Sparta sewer issues.
• Solid waste and the landfill problems
• Business and lots that need cleaning up in and near the historic downtown district
• Airport authority discussions
• Recreational areas for the city, including the Splash Pad
• YMCA and Sparta Civic Center generators
• Discussions of government red tape in getting projects moving
• City street upgrades and paving projects
• Discussion of possible pickleball courts
• Board room technology and city website upgrade needs
• Legal issues that seem to slow down progress

I must say I was overwhelmed by the number of people that attended.  I guess my faith was very low for the turnout.  The city will hold several more of these town hall meetings.  If you have any questions about the city, please feel free to email me at j.lowery@spartatn.gov
