Norman Dewayne Burton, 63, of Murfreesboro, and a native of Sparta, departed this life, on May 23, 2021, at Saint Thomas West Hospital, in Nashville.
Mr. Burton was born Jan. 20, 1958, in Sparta, to Monroe Sevier and Evelyn Richmond Burton.
He was a 1976 graduate of White County High School. After graduating, he joined the United States Army. At the conclusion of his military career, he returned to Sparta to work at Walmart then as a federal marshall before finding his dream job at the United States Post Office, in Nashville, where he worked for 36 years until retirement. He was an active member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, in Murfreesboro, and a longtime member of a Smyrna bowling team. Mr. Burton was a fan of University of Tennessee athletics and the Green Bay Packers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara "Lucy" Price.
Surviving family members include his two sisters, Sharon Burton, of Sparta, Melody Burton, of McMinnville; two nieces, Brandicah Wright, of McMinnville, Kendra Wright, of Nashville; two nephews, Willis Price of Sparta, J.R. Drake, of Rock Island; great-niece, Karigan; great-nephew, Madden; uncle, Robert Burton and wife Barbara, of Sparta; and numerous cousins.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., May 27, 2021, at Hunter Funeral Home. Burial with military honors by the Veterans' Honor Guard will follow in Davis Cemetery. The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 27, at the funeral home.
