Northfield Elementary students featured in school spotlight

Each month, a White County school plays host for the White County School Board’s regular meeting, and, during that meeting, they take the time to spotlight some of their outstanding students. March was Northfield Elementary School’s turn, and principal Beth Peek introduced one student from each grade, nominated by their teachers, to the school board.

Ellie Wallace, a student in Mrs. Thornton’s Pre-K class, was nominated for her willingness to participate in class.

“Ellie is always participating in our whole groups, small groups, and centers. She is extremely eager to learn,” Peek said as she told the board that her teachers brag about her ability to recount important details in sequence. “Ellie brings a lot of laughter and joy into our classroom and is loved by her teachers and friends.’

Brody Hitchcock, from Ms. Atkinson’s classroom, was the kindergarten nominee and was recommended because of his great attitude and being a hard worker.

“Brody comes to school every day with a smile on his face,” Peek read. “Brody sets a good example for others by showing kindness, leadership, courage, grit and creativity every day.”

Ms. Goodwin nominated Penelope Lewis as the first-grade representative, saying that she is more than deserving of the recognition.

“She always displays good citizenship in our first-grade classroom. Penelope obeys all rules both in and out of the classroom. She is willing to help her friends and teacher with anything and always does so with a sweet spirit,” the teacher wrote. “Penelope is responsible for her behavior and can be trusted to carry out anything asked of her. Her work is meticulous, and she takes great pride in her work. Penelope is a joy and a blessing to have in class.”

Ellie Randolph, a student in Ms. Haston’s second grade classroom, was the next nominee.

“Ellie is an excellent student,” Haston had written. “She always gives her best effort. She is kind to her classmates and is always willing to help out.”

As the focus shifted to the higher three grades in the school, students were nominated by teams of teachers as they spend time throughout each day in different classrooms.

Blake Mether was nominated by a team of McCaskey, Vinson, and Twitty as the third-grade honoree.

“Blake exhibits strong characteristics already at his age. He is a very confident student and participates in all subjects with optimism. Blake gets along great with all his peers and is drama free with whomever he works with. He is able to connect learning to life skills, which we will need in the near future to be successful,” Peek read what his teachers had to say about the third grader. “Blake is a very well-rounded individual that stays busy outside of school as well. His martial arts help team him respect as well as strengthening the mind and body. We are very proud to nominate Blake for this award. We love you! Mrs. McCaskey, Ms. Twitty, and Ms. Vinson.”

Eli Carr received the Spotlight Award for the fourth grade, having been nominated by the team of Miller and Whiteaker.

“Eli demonstrates exemplary behavior and leadership skills each and every day,” Peek read. “Eli works hard on every assignment.”

The fifth grade had two nominees, both nominated by the team of Summers and Richards, the first of which was Jackson Alford.

“Jack is a kind student who exemplifies an honor character. He is working on Vault on Ever-Fi where he is learning how to be more financial literate,” his teachers wrote about some of the work that the fifth grader has been doing and then about his kindness. “Jack is a responsible student who always goes above and beyond what is expected of him. He has a caring heart and contributes to being a delightful citizen of society.”

Olivia Revange was the second fifth grade nominee, and her teachers said that she is a great example of a model citizen.

“Olivia is kind, respectful, and helpful to everyone in her grade. She is an excellent student and athlete. Despite her success, she is always humble and friendly to others,” Peek read the nomination form. “For all of these reasons, we believe that Olivia epitomizes a wonderful citizen in the fifth grade.”

Each of the students was congratulated by the members of the White County School Board and praised for their hard work and achievements.
