Opal Virginia Huddleston Haston, 99, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 1, 2021, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Mrs. Haston was born April 7, 1922, in Sparta, to Fred Huddleston and Parzetta Pendergrass Huddleston.

After her mother passed away when she was 2 years old, Opal was raised by Gladys Huddleston. Opal was a homemaker who was always active in her community, with memberships in civic clubs throughout White County, including The Eastern Star. She remained a dedicated member to these clubs well into her 90s. In addition, Opal was a long-time member of Hickory Valley Methodist Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Dexter Haston Sr.; her son, Fred Dexter Haston Jr. and her siblings.

Opal is lovingly survived by her daughter, Nancy Haston Ellis and husband Lon; grandchildren, Paul (Sandra) Ellis, Kim (Jerry) Ivester, Jeffrey (Karen) Ellis, Gerry (Sue) Broyles; great-grandchildren, Abigail (Nathan) John, Lydia Ellis, Luke Ellis, Nathaniel (Alishia) Ellis, Emily Ellis, Adeline Ellis, David Ivester, Andrew Ivester; and great-great-grandson, Haston Ellis.

The Haston family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Life Care Center of Sparta and Avalon Hospice for all of their care and compassion for Mrs. Opal.

Funeral service will 1 p.m., Dec. 3, 2021, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11 a.m., Dec. 3, at the funeral home. Richard Bond will officiate.

Nathaniel Ellis, Luke Ellis, David Ivester, Andrew Ivester, Nathan John, and Bill Clark will serve as pallbearers.
