Piney Volunteer Fire responds to structure fire on Hwy 111

On June 20, 2022, Piney Volunteer Fire Department responded with Spencer Fire And Rescue, Fall Creek Falls Fire Department, and Cedar Fire Department to a report of a structure fire on Highway 111 near Industrial Drive. First-arriving units found smoke pouring from the wall between the garage and kitchen area.

The wall was ripped open to find the source of the fire. The fire, once found, was quickly extinguished. The area was checked for spread of the fire. The fire was contained to the wall.

The fire appeared to start around a toaster oven recessed in the wall. No one was injured in the fire.

The ambient heat and humidity did hamper firefighters as they quickly became overheated in turnout gear. Waters and sports drinks were provided for hydration.

Also responding to the scene were Van Buren County Emegency Medical Service and Van Buren County Sheriff Department.
