Rotary Club of Sparta provides shoes to children in Van Buren and White counties

Marilyn Monroe said that if you “give a girl the right shows … she can conquer the world,” and the Rotary Club of Sparta wants to be sure that both girls and boys throughout White and Van Buren counties are ready to conquer the world.

The club’s “Shoes for Kids” tour saw Rotary members visiting elementary schools throughout the two counties to personally place brand new shoes on 337 children throughout the month of September.

Area teachers helped by identifying students in need of shoes and sharing size information with the Rotary Club of Sparta. The club then purchased shoes for each child on the lists with funds raised through Sparta First United Methodist Church’s Tangent Group, Hickory Valley Baptist Church, and the Rotary Club of Sparta.

Rotarians and community partners visited schools throughout September to present the new shoes to students and watch the future educators, doctors, business professionals, and community leaders get ready to go out and conquer the world.
