Ruth Pryor Gribble, 91, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 16, 2020, at Bailey Manor, in Cookeville.
Mrs. Gribble was born Aug. 4, 1929, in Sparta, the daughter of Ben Pryor and Maude Fletcher Pryor.
She was the wife of 58 years to Horace Aubrey Gribble.
Mrs. Gribble was a member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church.
She was employed at the old Sparta Shirt Factory before leaving to start a family and then later was employed at Dollar General Store after her family was grown. She enjoyed working in the public seeing people.
She raised several gardens over the years and always canned/froze food for the winter months. She helped on the farm with raising tobacco, bringing the dairy cows in to milk twice daily, gathering firewood, and cooking many meals for work hands.
She doted over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gribble was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Horace Gribble; sisters, Jean Rose, Mildred Eller Davis; and brothers, Carl Thomas Pryor and Arnold Pryor.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Gribble (Susan), of Knoxville, Stephen Gribble, of Sparta; daughters, Shirley Smith (David), of Sparta, Sherrie Wilson (Bobby), of Sparta; grandchildren, Emily Wood (Jonathan) of Asheville, North Carolina, Curtis Gribble (Logan), of Franklin, Katie Reagan, of Champaign, Illinois, Sarah Hawn (Joey), of Cookeville, Joe Smith, of Cookeville, Will Wilson (Jessica), of Sparta, Alex Reagan, of Sparta; great-grandchildren, Blane Gribble, Molly Claire Gribble, Tanner Wilson, Ryleigh Mae Wilson, Jace McGehee, Ellie McGehee, Jordyn Hawn; and many special nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank all at Bailey Manor for the love and care Mrs. Gribble received during her 10-month stay. Thanks also to special caregiver Noretta Prime.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Nov. 19, 2020, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Saylors Cemetery. Doug Benningfield will officiate. The family will welcome friends 4-8 p.m., Nov. 18, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers to serve will be Eddie Gentry, Sam Langford, Jack Langford, Freddie Adcock, Richard Rice, Darryl Stockton, and Scottie Smith.
The family has requested that all attendees please wear a face mask due to COVID-19. Please continue to practice social distancing while attending all visitations and services.
