Sylvia Marie Frasier Payne, 84, of Sparta, passed away June 1, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Payne was born Oct. 4, 1936, in the Bon Air community of White County, to Albert Stanton Frasier and Lula Mae Hale Frasier.
She retired from Mallory after more than 30 years of service. At home, she loved to work outside with her flowers and the yard. She was quite handy with tools as well if any work was necessary inside the home. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. But above all else, she loved being with her family - especially her grandchildren.
She will be missed by those who love her, as will her cooking (most notably her dressing that was always a favorite at family gatherings).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas "Bill" Payne, who died on April 11, 2012; sons Stanton, Charles Lee, and Ronnie Payne; brothers, Ben and Jack Frasier; and infant sisters Geneva Mae and Julia Ann Frasier.
Survivors include her twin daughters Diane Sawyer, of Sparta, Joanna (James) Haney, of Gainesboro; son, Darin Payne, of Sparta;
grandchildren, Jerry Sawyer and wife Jamie, Ryan Haney, Jody Payne, Justin Payne, Cody Payne, Jamie Jo Sawyer; several great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Roberts; brothers, Harold Frazier, David Frasier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., June 5, 2021, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Old Bon Air Cemetery.
Jim Haney, Jerry Sawyer, Leon Frasier, Tommy Frasier, Larry Frasier, and Donnie Frasier served as pallbearers.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
