 1972

  • Beth Null, a freshman journalism student from Sparta and graduate of White County High School, was named the sports editor of The Oracle, Tennessee Tech’s weekly publication.
  • The Sparta Garden Club placed Yule Ribbons on parking meters around Sparta. The decorations added a festive spirit to the downtown area.

1982

  • After a Red Cross regulation that lowered the age for a person to be eligible to donate blood to 17, members of the White County Chapter of the Red Cross received blood from 114 donors – 101 of whom donated for the first time.
  • Sparta Rotarian Charles Robinson presented White County Senior 4-H President Amy Judd and White County 4-H Honor Club president Leigh Ann Ballinger with a check for $50 to help support the group’s 1982-83 program emphasis on career planning and development.

1992

  • Wayne Stubblefield, minister at Central Church of Christ in Sparta, along with two other families, recently went to Bamaul, Russia, where they established a church and university during their two week stay.
  • F & J’s Used Merchandise was the winner of the White County Rescue Squad’s Christmas Fest Merchants Window Decorating contest. L & E Ladies Sportswear placed second, while Country Treasures took the third-place prize.
  • Bill and Barbara Boruff, of Bill Boruff Chrysler, Plymouth Dodge, Jeep, Eagle, introduced Subaru as the newest line of vehicles available at their dealership.

2002 

  • The White County High School Music Department hosted a Christmas Tour of Homes, including the homes of Don and Helen Pate, Robert and Sylvia Kennedy, Susan Wilson, and P.J. And Patricia Hardy. Tickets for the festive tour were sold, with proceeds going to help the WCHS Music Department.
  • The Sparta YMCA hosted their 8th annual craft fair. The craft fair gave local crafters a chance to showcase their goods, local residents a chance to purchase unique gifts, plus added support to the local YMCA programs.
  • The season’s elementary basketball championships came to an end. The Cassville girls and Doyle boys captured first-place honors in the small division, while Findlay’s girls and Woodland Park’s boys won the championship for the large school division.

2012

  • White County was chosen to receive $12,164 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
  • A cane belonging to Confederate General George G. Dibrell was put on display at the White County History Museum. The cane was donated to the museum by John Thomas Dibrell.
  • Kenneth McCormick had the ride of his life driving his 1961 black Corvette convertible around the Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida. McCormick’s was one of 70 cars that was given the opportunity to make three laps around the speedway as part of the 39th Annual Daytona Turkey Run.
