2015
Andrea Neill, of Doyle Elementary, Ann Jones, of White County High School, and Andrea Simpson, of Doyle Elementary, were recognized as White County’s Teachers of the Year.
An ice storm blew through the county, causing thousands to be without power. After three days, roads were still blanketed in snow and ice, but public works employees were working long hours to clear roads and restore power to homes.
White County Middle School Warriors’ season came to an end in the semi-final game of the TNT tournament. At the high school level, both the boys and girls’ teams advance to the 6AAA title game.
2005
White County Commission voted to hire a part-time parks and recreation director.
White County Library announced that they would soon be getting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.
White County named Kayla Powell as number 10 and Kendall Agee as number nine in White County High School’s top 10 seniors.
1995
Winter weather made the roads hazardous for travelers this week.
Travis Bullock received the Eagle Scout Award, the highest honor a Boy Scout can receive.
Several residents chipped in to help with the construction on the new Quebeck Fire Department. The department was in the final stages of construction.
1985
Sparta insurance agent and former mayor Bob Breeding announced his candidacy for mayor of Sparta.
Roy Sewell, White County High School athletic director and head boys’ basketball coach, was slated to be tournament director for the District 7AAA Basketball Tournament.
White County Board of Education tentatively agreed to purchase an 18-acre site near the Sparta Country Club as the site of the proposed elementary school.
1975
Chris Parris earned the highest rank at White County High School in the 1975 Betty Crocker Search for Leadership in Family Living.
T.C. Howell announced his candidacy for mayor of Sparta.
John Norwood, of Evanston, Illinois, was presented a key to the city by Mayor Herman Cowden. Norwood received the key as a token for the “worthy work in the churches.”
