  • White County Middle School Warriors swept the CTC championships. The boys’ basketball team won both the season and the tournament championships.
  • Five White County Middle School basketball players received all-conference honors for the regular season: Dyson Reece, Jenna Matthews, Emily Kerr, Jack Humphrey, and David Kincer
  • Lazy Days Market, on McMinnville Highway, was the site of a fuel leak that contaminated ground water. The store was cooperating with TDEC to make repairs and assist in the clean-up efforts.

2005

  • Former White County Warrior David Culley was part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ coaching staff and was preparing to coach in Super Bowl XXXIX.
  • 2004 Farmers of the Year award was awarded to Curtis Mackie and family, and a sign from White County Soil Conservation was given to the family to place at the farm
  • Stewart Mitchell and Lacy Yslas were named Mr. and Miss Basketball at the White County Middle School’s final home game of the year.

1995

  • Construction at the Sparta Senior Citizens Center was completed and members enjoyed their first meal together at the reopened center.
  • Lt. Floyd Reynolds, of Sparta, became the new captain of the 16-county Cookeville District of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
  • City of Sparta approved a request for financial assistance to help start the 1995 Little League season. The money was to be used for renovations and upkeep of the field that were to be used by 700 children across 50 teams.

1985

  • An ice storm glazed White County, leaving hundreds without power for more than four days, however, no serious injuries were reported during the storm.
  • An airplane that had been chased from the Bahamas to Sparta the previous year was ordered to be forfeited to the federal government as it was believed to be part of a drug-smuggling operation.
  • Jack Farley was promoted to operations manager of the Pacesetters Program in Sparta-White County. Farley had previously been the workshop supervisor.
