  • Senator Vernon Neal and State Representative Ivy Hillis discuss the Sparta area vocational school proposal as they gathered with a group of civic leaders at First National Bank, in Sparta.
  • Warriorette fans were on the edge of their seats at the team took on their longtime rival, Cookeville. Debbie Alcorn and Pam Watts captured their third win of the season with a final score of 47-46.
  • Charles Hembree, a 36-year-employee of Sparta Post Office, was presented with a plaque at a retirement party.

  • William and Annell Hickey, of Sparta, were included in the Carbo Police Museum of the South, in Pigeon Forge. William had served six years in office at this time, and Annell was elected for a two-year term with her husband as her chief deputy. Annell was also the first female sheriff in the State of Tennessee.
  • Sgt. 1st Class Larry Blaylock receives his Army Commendation Medal from Brig. Gen. Charles Anderson, commander of Tennessee National Guard.

  • White County High School Warriorettes, ranked No. 1 in Tennessee girls’ basketball, completed a perfect 10-0 district schedule.
