2015
Sparta Fire Chief Kirk Young celebrated 30 years with the city’s fire department.
White County High School Warriorettes won their first region title since 1997 and were set to host the first round of the sectional tournament.
Sparta National Guard soldiers were activated during a recent ice disaster and the armory became a safe haven for those without electricity.
2005
Seth Daniels was number eight and Scarlett Slatton was number seven in the White County High School Top Ten graduating seniors.
George Elrod was named 2005 Citizen of the Year.
The Cumberland Plateau was to be named a National Heritage Corridor, and White County was included in that plan.
1995
County Commissioners discussed the prospect of purchasing land adjacent to the fairgrounds for $6,500.
Jennifer Brooke Bailey was honored as Miss Photogenic in the preliminary regional Miss Tennessee Teen USA Pageant.
John Cheek announced his candidacy for mayor of Sparta in the April 1 election.
1985
In a surprise announcement, Sparta Police Chief Ernest Cotten resigned after two years as chief.
Theresa Hallums, of Doyle, was discovered by Models Unlimited in an open model call. She was offered an interview with the Dallas-based Mike Beaty Agency, one of the largest agencies in Texas.
Brenda Kay Newman was named valedictorian of the WCHS class of 1985. Brian Thomas Henry was salutatorian.
1975
Houston Tosh was elected as the first president of the Doyle Lions Club.
Dolly (Lothar) Will was crowned queen of the Womanless Beauty Pageant.
Donald Hughes Bradley was named White County High School class of 1975 valedictorian. Janie Marcum was salutatorian.
