H.L. England, who had been under contract with the State of Tennessee doing electrical inspections for several years, was named as City of Sparta’s codes enforcement officer.
Freshman Japheth Griggs competed at the state swim meet in Knoxville along with the state’s top swimmers and divers.
Lakelyn Bouldin was one of three finalists chosen for the Class A Miss Basketball award.
2005
Four White County High School athletes were named to the All District 7AAA basketball team with six more receiving honorable mentions. Seth Daniels, Keela Henry, Allison Cole, and Molly McFadden were named All District.
White County Middle School announced that their 2nd Annual Renaissance Festival would be held at the beginning of April.
1995
Sparta/White County Chamber of Commerce held a Red Carpet Ceremony at Potter’s Builders Mart, on Churchill Drive.
Ginger Jared, a former White County Warriorette, helped the Vanderbilt Lady Commodores upset the Tennessee Lady Vols to claim the SEC Tourney Championship.
Ten members of the White County 4-H Club participated in the Tennessee State Hippology and Horse Bowl contests, in Gallatin.
1985
Robert Agee announced that he would be seeking re-election as a member of the city’s board of aldermen.
Stan Mitchell, former owner of J&W Amusement Co. and current owner of Simple Pleasures gift shop, announced that he would be running for city aldermen
Maggie Haston celebrated her 90th birthday at Sparta Healthcare Center.
