1973

  • For the 1973 White County High School graduation class, 199 diplomas were given to graduating students.
  • City of Sparta asked for a $.2 million grant to build a sewage disposal plant on Calfkiller River that could treat one million gallons per day.
  • Thelma Pippin, a junior at Tennessee Tech, was the first White Countian enrolled in the Tech Cooperative Education Program to give student teachers an opportunity to practice what they have learned before graduation.

1983

  • Chester Miller and R.L. Yates announced their candidacy for mayor of Doyle.
  • A group of citizens planned to break ground on a new church on Highway 111 near its intersection with Smithville Highway that they planned to call the Community Presbyterian Church.
  • Tennessee Tech ROTC Cadet Norman Dodson, a junior criminal justice major from Sparta, received the Military Order of the World Wars Award during the ROTC Day awards ceremony.

1993

  • Video Max held its grand opening ceremony.
  • Mayor Margaret Pearson announced an amphitheater was to be built at the corner of Bockman Way and Main Street, at the site of the old Lee Hotel. It was made possible by a $100,000 donation from an unnamed source and $50,000 from the city.
  • Mike Palmer won the weightlifting national championship for the 148-pound weight class

2003

  • Allene Simmons won the grand prize of $100,000 after hitting a hole-in-one at the Gracemoor Golf Tournament
  • Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen passed a measure prohibiting skateboarding in certain parts of the city, imposing fines, community service or confiscation of skateboards for violators.
  • White County Relay for Life raised $24,250 at its annual event at the fairgrounds.

2013

  • 236 students accepted their diplomas during the 2013 Class of 2013 graduation ceremony.
  • Three Warriorettes were named to Softball All District: Bailey Bain, Kelsey Roberts, and Kaitlyn Heath.
  • Jesse Welch, a three-year employee of Floyd’s Cash Saver grocery store, was awarded the $1,200 Tennessee Grocers and Convenience Store Association Scholarship.
