2014

  • Dillard Quick was named the city’s new public works director. The decision was made after a unanimous vote in favor of Quick’s appointment.
  • Former White County Warrior Hunter Cantrell was named the SAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Tusculum Pioneer’s win over Wingate.
  • White County High School Class of 1949 held their reunion at Casa Luna Restaurant, in Sparta, where members met and reminisced about their days in the White County schools.

2004

  • Kristen Mackie was named White County High School homecoming queen.
  • Angie England was named band sweetheart at the White County High School homecoming tame.
  • White County Humane Society reactivated its charter to begin operating again.

1994

  • Crews installed ventilation doors and dew flooring in the Rock House after the old wood had been eaten by termites.
  • A committee had been appointed to research White County’s stray animal control problem with the goal of creating a county animal shelter.
  • Van Hilleary, candidate for the 4th Congressional District, visited the Hickory Valley Fire Department and Sparta-White County Rescue Squad.

1984

  • John David Drake received his second lieutenant’s bards from his parents and was named Distinguished Military Graduate at a commissioning ceremony at the University of Tennessee.
  • Voters passed a three-quarter percent sales tax increase. The funds were earmarked to improve the badly deteriorating elementary schools.
  • MiMi Christie Wilkerson, of Sparta, was selected as Miss Tennessee Teen USA, which was the state finals to the Teen USA Universe Pageant.

1974

  • To combat the alleged energy crisis, White County’s courthouse officials changed official hours for all offices to remain open on Wednesdays and closed all day on Saturday.
  • Sparta-White County Airport, at Hampton’s Crossroads, was expected to be fully operational by the end of the year.
  • A new auditorium was constructed at Bear Cove Baptist Church.
