1972 

  • Representative Joe L. Evins was the principal speaker at the grand opening of Crag Rock Village townhomes.
  • White County Junior High football team completed the season undefeated as they beat the Smyrna Rams in the final game of the season.

1982

  • Herbert Jernigan was named Master Conservation Farmer by the White County Soil Conservation District.
  • Michael Jernigan received the American Farmer Degree at the 55th National Future Farmers of America Convention, in Kansas City.
  • The White County tax rate was set at $1.67 cents over the certified rate. The city rate was set at $1.89, 23 cents higher than the certified rate.

1992

  • Ten historic buildings in downtown Sparta received facelifts, with new businesses opening inside, to help spur the improvement of downtown Sparta.
  • Veva Everson was crowned Ms. Senior White County at the Age of Elegance Pageant.
  • White County Legislative Body voted unanimously to recommend that White County become a single-county landfill region and would not share a landfill with other counties.

2002

  • Sparta and White County received the Governor’s Three Star Award for the 10th year at an award ceremony, in Nashville.
  • Alicia Selby, 16, of Sparta, was crowned Miss Tennessee Teen USA, in Clarksville. She was a junior at White County High School. Selby went on to compete in the national competition at San Padre Island, Teas.
  • Gubernatorial candidate Van Hilleary visited Sparta residents at a fundraising brunch at White County High School where he spoke to those in attendance about his plans for office if elected.

2012

  • City and county officials met to review a proposed plan of hiring an industrial recruiter that would for both governmental entities and ultimately replace the existing position of Chamber of Commerce president.
  • White County Public Library hosted Spooky Saturday in which they had story time, a puppet show, and candy for children who visited in their Halloween costumes.
