Tom Pope, 69, of Sparta, passed away Nov. 14, 2020, at his residence, surrounded by family.
He was born Sept. 14, 1951, in Sparta.
Tom worked in construction for over 40 years. However, driving bus #21 for White County Bus Garage was his true calling. While there, he made many lifelong friends. His family heard many stories about Babe, Sheila, Lynn, Ken, Terry, Tracy, Lori Lori, Randy, Murdock, and Crouch, just to name a few.
Tom loved to fish and hunt, but his greatest enjoyment came from time spent with his family and his Florida home, “Little Blue.” He had many nicknames: Billy Goat, Pope, and Jabber Jaws. However, his favorite name was “Pa.” Tom and Brenda were married for almost 50 years. Tom often said that he and Bren raised each other because they married when they were just kids. Although he will be missed greatly, we have the hope of seeing him again, thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, John Oscar Pope, and his brothers, Gary Pope, David Pope, and Rick Pope.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Grissom Pope Boles; his wife of 49 years, Brenda Foster Pope; son, John (Deanna) Pope; daughter, Stephanie "Sis" (Matthew) Davis; grandchildren, Alex, Elizabeth, and Harrison Pope, Cobin, Caden, and Creed Davis; brother, Bob (Sheila) Pope; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Nov. 18, 2020, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Davis Cemetery. Eugene Lawson will officiate.
The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Nov. 17, at the funeral home.

Tom's register book is now available for signing in the parlor of Hunter Funeral Home for friends who are not comfortable in a crowd.
