TTU women's basketball cancels season opener

The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team will have to wait a few more days to open their 2020-21 campaign after Vanderbilt canceled the originally scheduled season opener on November 25.

The Commodores cited 'a lack of available student-athletes as a result of quarantining individuals with positive COVID tests and those designated as close contacts, along with injuries.'

"It is unfortunate, but it is the current reality of college athletics," said Tech Director of Athletics Mark Wilson. "During these times, the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaching staff, fans and the entire Athletics family must be at the forefront. I know it is a difficult decision to make, especially with a new season beginning, but we have to be flexible during these turbulent times."

The NCAA and the Ohio Valley Conference have passed down guidelines that Tech plans to follow through the course of the 2020-21 campaign, including limited and spaced seating.

The Golden Eagles' schedule could see more updates in the coming days and will remain subject to change. Updates will be available through Tech's social media channels and on TTUsports.com.

Season tickets for Tech basketball are on sale. Call (931) 372-3940, visit TTUsports.com or drop by the Hooper Eblen Center to order.
