Van Buren, Fentress, and Overton counties announce new health department director

The Upper Cumberland Regional Health Office is proud to announce that Summer Matthews has been named the new Fentress, Overton, and Van Buren health departments’ county director. Matthews began her role as county director, in March.

‘’We are very pleased that Mrs. Matthews has agreed to serve as our next Health Department County Director and know she will work to continue moving these counties forward as we work to improve the health of everyone who lives in our communities.’’ said Upper Cumberland Regional Health Director Angel Troxell.

“I’m excited and feel fortunate to join this tremendous group of dedicated and caring public health professionals at the Fentress, Overton, and Van Buren County health departments,’’ Matthews said.

Fentress, Overton, and Van Buren County health departments offer many health services, including primary care for the insured, uninsured, underinsured, or TennCare members.

Services offered include:

  • Required/Recommended immunizations – Immunizations include polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, meningitis, hepatitis B, flu and pneumonia.
  • Vital Records – Birth/death certificates
  • Child Health – Physical exams, screening tests and immunizations
  • Women, Infants and Children (WIC) – Vouchers for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and children under five years of age at risk of poor growth, breastfeeding classes/support to all new mothers and nutrition tips.
  • Prenatal – Pregnancy testing, presumptive eligibility screening for Medicaid, referral for prenatal care
  • TennCare Outreach - Services to families and individuals who may be eligible for TennCare.
