Capt. (Dr.) Charles Mitchell to be honored by veterans

CALLING ALL VETERANS - Tim French, a U.S Navy veteran who lives in Crossville, will be walking in honor of Capt. Charles A. Mitchell (Dr. Charles Mitchell), a decorated veteran of World War II, who resided in Sparta. French began honoring his fellow veterans several years ago by carrying an American flag on his daily walks.  French then expanded his “walks” into other cities. The walk for “Doc” will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Veterans Park in Sparta. The walk will continue to Highland Cemetery, where Doc Mitchell is laid to rest. All veterans who are able are welcome and encouraged to walk. Also, anyone in the community who would like to participate, please be at the Veterans Park at 8 a.m., July 2. If you are not able to walk, just show up at the Veterans Park for a proud, patriotic send-off. For more information, call Kim Wood at (931) 836-3284.

In addition, White County Veterans Museum, in the American Legion Building, on Liberty Square, will be open 9 a.m.-noon, July 2,  for those who would like to view Capt. (Dr.) Mitchell's World War II memorabilia that he donated to the museum, as well as view other historical donations from White County veterans and their families.
