Voluntary reduction in power use requested by TVA

From Caney Fork Electric Cooperative Inc., on June 22:

TVA along with CFEC and other TVA distributors are asking consumers for Voluntary Reduction in Power Use again today between the hours of Noon and 8pm.

A Power Supply Alert is in effect for the TVA Service Territory.  TVA is asking all electric power consumers to voluntarily reduce their use of electricity as much as possible at this time.  Reducing your consumption of electricity will not only help you save money on your electric bill, it will help TVA avoid purchasing higher-priced power from other parts of the country – that’s a win-win!

TVA and all TVA power distributors have also cut back on power usage in their facilities by adjusting thermostats, reducing lighting, and taking other measures to reduce electricity consumption.

Officials of the 155 local power companies in the Tennessee Valley are asking all electric power consumers--residential, commercial, and industrial--to cooperate in reducing power usage during this extreme heat wave.

It would be helpful if you would:

  • Postpone using electric appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, and cooking equipment.
  • Reduce the use of cooling by adjusting thermostats to 75° F.
  • Turn off nonessential lights, appliances, and other electrical equipment.

We will report on the power situation as soon as we have any updates. Thank you for your help in this matter.
