Voters say “no” to local sales tax increase

County residents had the opportunity to vote on a sales tax referendum that was on the ballot for March 14.

The question on the ballot read: “Shall Resolution No. 88-12-2022 passed by the White County Commission which increases the local sales tax rate from 2.25% to 2.75% become operative?”

1,077 ballots were cast – 501 for and 576 against. The referendum failed.
