Walter B. Holman Jr., 77, of Sparta, passed away July 28, 2020, at his home.

Mr. Holman was born July 2, 1943, in Sparta, to Walter and Bessie Holman.

He served as an elder at West Sparta church of Christ for 32 years.

Daddy (Papa) was the strongest and toughest man we knew. He   loved his farm on Bon Air Mountain that he kept in perfect shape. He loved and enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren and loved his wife dearly. A family “get together” made his day. Joy was found through tractor rides, bonfires, wiener roasts, woodworking, and, most of all, beautiful sunsets. He could grow anything and took pleasure in giving away the fruits of his labor. He could build anything with his hands and loved to add detail and leave his mark. If you never had a swing in his arms as a child, you were missing out, and that brought such happiness to hear the little squeals.

This wonderful man will be dearly missed and forever loved.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester Holman, Stanford Holman, Clifford Holman, Herman Holman, Leon Holman and his sisters, Estelene Cashdollar, Pauline Bennett, Dorothy McCall, Beulah Howell, and Thelma Jean Clark.

Surviving family include wife, Anna Lou Holman, of Sparta; daughters, Kimberly Ann McDonald (Steve), of Sparta, Mary Beth Whitson (Kayd), of Sparta; sons, Matthew Holman (Robynn,) of Sparta, Charles Bransford “Brant” Holman (Lauren), of Cookeville; 10 grandchildren, with one on the way in August, Makayla Brown, Layne Brown, Elin McDonald, Willow Whitson, Stone Whitson, Rylan Holman, Wes Holman, Wiley Holman, Levi Holman, and Brodie Holman, and a baby girl due in August; brothers, Buford Holman (Ruth), of Sparta, Raymond Holman (Sue), of Sparta; and sisters, Josephine Howard, of Mt. Juliet, and Ernestine Holman, of Sparta.

Funeral will be 4 p.m., Aug. 1, 2020, at West Sparta church of Christ, with burial to follow at the Holman family farm. Derrick Coble will officiate. The family will receive friends 1-4 p.m., Aug. 1, at the church.
