The 2020 White County High School football season opened with great anticipation in mid-August.

Warrior fans were looking forward to what Malaki Dowell, a junior class member, would accomplish during the season. The results were record breaking for Dowell and the Warriors. Dowell would break the rushing record set by former Warrior Dewayne Marcus in the 1983 season, by rushing for 2,037 yards.

Dowell carried the ball 191 times and averaged 10.6 yards per carry for the Warrior offense. He also scored 23 touchdowns for the maroon and gray. During the season, he was named the Middle Tennessee Athlete of the Week by the Tennessean. With the assistance of his team of “brothers,” as he refers to his fellow Warriors, they defeated the Cookeville Cavaliers for a great rivalry victory. He was also named the Region 5 – 5A Co-MVP by the coaches of the region. Dowell was also named a Semi-finalist for the Division 1 – 5A TSSAA Mr. Football sponsored by the Tennessee Titans. Dowell was also selected to the 2021 Class 5A State Coaches All State Team.

As a running back, Dowell had a season that will not only be remembered by himself and his teammates but by the Warrior fans both young and old.

Congratulations to the Warriors on a great football season.
